Boreas and Oreithyia is an example of one of de Morgan’s works with literary subjects, this one being of an Ancient Greek myth. This particular myth was of the god of the north wind, Boreas, portrayed in the painting as the winged man, who kidnapped Oreithyia– the naked woman. Evelyn’s portrayal of Boreas differs from typical depictions in the way she paints him as benevolent and gentle.
